Tenuta Golo is a must visit if you are in Montepulciano. Golo specializes in Rosso di Montepulciano DOC and Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG—both of which are outstanding. The drive up is absolutely breathtaking, and you are greeted with olive groves and a stunning vista of the Tuscan countryside. We stopped by on our way to a wedding and stocked up on some wine for the bride and groom, and we also made sure to leave some room in our bags to take some bottles back to the States. Niall is a gracious host/owner, and Elia is a delight—you can see their passion burning through every word. If nothing else, you’ll sure to be charmed by Niall’s Irish wit and Elia’s inviting smile. Learn, drink, buy. Repeat.
My three friends and I enjoyed an amazing wine tasting here in April, 2025. The hosts could not have been more welcoming - they made us feel right at home and were so much fun. The wine is amazing, and I can't wait to have some shipped to me at home. I would absolutely recommend this place to my friends and family.
We did the tour and tasting and it was incredible. Elia was so charming and knowledgeable of everything wine-related. From the picking, to the varieties of grape, to the different notes and flavours of wine produced from the fermentation process. The tour was special as you could sample the fruits of Elia's hard work in the wine.
Had an excellent wine tour and tasting at Poggio Golo yesterday. Niall and Paari took over the vineyard in 2020 and it was interesting to hear the joys and challenges of improving and making new wine. Niall is very interesting and very entertaining to listen to and the wines we tasted were delicious. Particularly enjoyed their new edition a Rose wine called Lily. Definitely would recommend a visit.

A slice of heaven, just waiting for you for come and experience.Our stay at The Retreat at Poggio Golo was beyond our expectations. From the host greeting to checkout, the experience was 5 star all the way. The scenery is beautiful, the pool is refreshing, the amenities are top-notch, and the villa is extraordinary. Niall and Paari have created something remarkable here, and Kathy keeps everything working and comfortable. There aren’t many once-in-a-lifetime experiences left in the world, but this qualifies.We’ll be back.
